Fietsersbond Haagse regio

English info

We are the Fietsersbond, the Dutch Cyclists’ Union. We campaign for better cycling conditions in the Netherlands.

In The Netherlands we love cycling. Some people even say that it is in our DNA, but that is not true. Building a cyclists’ paradise requires hard work, a clear vision and a bit of defiance. We should know, because keeping The Netherlands a safe and happy cycling country is our main goal, ever since we started, already fifty years ago.

Fietsersbond in the The Hague region is committed to safe and comfortable cycling and thus contributes to a liveable, healthy and active The Hague region and to cycling happiness for everyone. We are active in The Hague, Leidschendam-Voorburg, Rijswijk and Wassenaar. The Fietsersbond in The Hague region has approximately 1,700 members of which 1,100 members live in The Hague. We have about 30 active volunteers who are active in a number of working groups.

Working group The Hague municipal politics
This working group is involved in many (all?) redevelopment projects in the city. We try to introduce the importance of cycling as early as possible.

Working group Communication
This working group publishes our magazine “De Fietsbel”, our digital newsletter “Fietsflits Haagse regio”, manages this website and is active on social media.

Working group Unfriendly Situations for Cyclists (FOS)
The Cyclists’ Union manages a reporting point for unfriendly situations for cyclists. The members of the working group discuss these points with the municipality and think along about solutions.

Working group Traffic control systems (VRI)
Traffic control systems control traffic lights. Not all traffic lights are set to be bicycle-friendly, which means cyclists have to wait a long time. We periodically discuss pain points received by the Cyclists’ Union.

Working group Traffic safety
Traffic safety in The Hague is poor. The causes are not always clear. This working group tries to get a better picture of the main causes and tries to get this topic higher on the (municipal) agenda.

working group Parkenroute
In The Hague you will occasionally come across signs for the Parkenroute. The Parkenroute Den Haag is a 60 km long cycle route through parks and avenues in The Hague. The working group is the manager of the route.
